Concurrent Workshop (Core Administration): Publication Tracking/Acknowledgement
The number and quality of publications to which a core facility contributes is often a key metric used to assess the impact that the facility has on the research it supports, and often determines whether the facility will receive support. Gathering this information often falls to core personnel who do not always have the correct tools or sufficient time. In this session we will discuss methods that can be used to enhance publication searches allowing core personnel to maximize the number of publications, and we will explore some commercial tools that can reduce the time it takes to manage publication data. The session will also include demos of publication tracking software from several commercial companies, some of which attempt to distribute the onus of publication acknowledgement and tracking to the people who are best able to determine facility contributions – the authors of the publications themselves.
