The FASEB MARC Program will be sponsoring ABRF 2012 Travel Awards to help support the participation of full-time faculty/mentors, postdoctoral fellows, and students from minority institutions (MIs) and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The travel awards are funded (up to $1,650 per award) for travel-related expenses and meeting registration. Travel awards are provided as reimbursements after the meeting. The travel awards are supported by a federal training grant from the NIGMS, NIH; therefore, only U.S. citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. are eligible to receive travel award funding. Underrepresented minority faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows from majority institutions are also eligible to apply for the travel awards. The deadline for applications is February 17, 2012.
* Qualified ethnic minority groups that are identified as being underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences include: African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hispanic Americans, American Indians/Native Americans and Natives of the U.S. Pacific Islands (Guam, Hawai'i, or American Samoa). Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible for FASEB MARC Program funding.

Please contact David Needleman or Janet Murray if you are applying for a MARC Travel Award. There will be acknowledgement and a program of activities for the MARC Travel Award recipients at the ABRF 2012 meeting.
Travel awards are available to ABRF members who have made outstanding contributions in their institutional core facilities; have developed new biotechnologies with applications in core facilities; and/or have been active in ABRF activities. The award is to be used to offset the cost of attending “ABRF2012: Learning from Biomolecules” to be held in Orlando, Florida. The deadline for applications is February 11, 2012.
Application for the travel award is easy using the online application form.
The award amount is $600 for North American members and $1,000 for all others, and may be used to offset the costs associated with meeting attendance (for example, travel and lodging). A complimentary registration is included as part of the award.
Students or postdoctoral fellows directly associated with the mission of member laboratories may also apply.

Those who have received a travel award within the past three years are not eligible. Successful applicants will be notified the first week of February 2012.
